Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned a five-kilometer road network designed to open up and modernize Gaya Emirate.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf commissioned the project on Wednesday at the palace of the Emir of Gaya, shortly after paying homage to Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir.
Governor Yusuf charged the construction firm handling the project to ensure full compliance with the contractual specifications so that the road will stand the test of time.
He informed the Emir that he was in Gaya to also lay the foundation for several historic projects that will significantly transform the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
The Governor explained that the road, upon completion, will be fitted with solar-powered streetlights and equipped with proper drainage systems on both sides.
He added that the drainages would be covered with interlocking tiles to enhance the aesthetics of the road and make it comparable to those in modern cities.
Governor Yusuf further assured residents that the longstanding problem of water scarcity in the area would soon be addressed, noting that a technical survey is currently underway to channel water from the Wudil River to Gaya.
He also urged residents of the Emirate to leverage the siting of a new Polytechnic in the town, emphasizing the importance of education in shaping future generations.
The Governor thanked the Emir and the people of Gaya for their unwavering support toward the administration’s development initiatives aimed at improving human lives.
In his remarks, Emir Abdulkadir expressed gratitude to the state government, noting that the administration’s projects are visible across all four Emirates.
He stated that nearly 80 percent of Governor Yusuf’s campaign promises have already been fulfilled, and commended the construction of the road and the establishment of a second Polytechnic in the Emirate.
Members of the Governor’s entourage during the homage included the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Local Government Chairmen, and party supporters.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf, accompanied by the Deputy Governor and the Emir, also commissioned the newly completed Gaya Town Hall.
He said the hall would help address the shortage of modern and conducive meeting spaces in the town.
In a related development, the Governor inspected the ongoing construction of the Women Reformatory Institute, Gaya.
