The ongoing five-kilometre road projects in Ajingi, Wudil, and Takai local government areas are progressing steadily toward completion, rekindling hope and confidence among residents after years of delays and infrastructural neglect.

In September, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf directed all contractors handling the five-kilometre road projects across Kano State, except for six local governments, to ensure completion by December 2025, setting a firm deadline to accelerate delivery.

During a routine inspection tour on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work recorded in the three local government areas.

The Ajingi 5KM road project, valued at N3.4 billion, is among those previously revoked and re-awarded due to non-performance and repeated complaints from host communities.

The newly engaged contractor has achieved significant progress using only the initial mobilization funds, without requesting additional payment certificates from the ministry.

Residents of Ajingi have commended the project’s renewed momentum.

Shehu Isa Ajingi, a community activist, said the road’s completion will transform commercial activities and improve daily life.

“We had almost given up before now. Commercial activities here were a nightmare, especially during the rainy season.

“We are happy to see that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has not disappointed us.

“His administration has restored our hope by ensuring this project continues,” he said.

In Wudil Local Government Area, officials confirmed that construction work is nearing completion, with asphalt laying and drainage construction in the final stages, leaving the installation of streetlights as the only major task outstanding.

Similarly, in Takai Local Government Area, work is advancing rapidly, bringing visible relief to residents who have long awaited better transportation infrastructure to ease movement and stimulate economic growth.

Commissioner Sumaila also inspected the ongoing construction of a Jumma’at Mosque in Rijiyar Gwangwan, Jido, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, where he commended the contractor’s quality of work and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of all state-funded projects.

Residents across the visited local governments expressed renewed trust in the current administration’s determination to complete long-stalled projects, describing the ongoing developments as a sign of better days ahead for rural communities in Kano State.
