Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has presented a proposed budget of N515.58 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
Tagged the “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” the proposal is structured to cover capital, recurrent, overhead, and personnel expenditures.
The new budget represents a significant increase from the 2025 fiscal year’s N320.81 billion. Out of the total estimate, N192.13 billion—representing 37.3%, is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N323.46 billion (62.7%) is earmarked for capital projects.
Governor Buni explained that the 2026 budget prioritizes the completion of ongoing projects and the commencement of new ones to consolidate post-insurgency recovery and accelerate socio-economic growth across the state.
He gave the sectoral breakdown as follows:
Administration: N63.97 billion (12.4%)
Economic Sector: N245.70 billion (47.7%)
Law and Justice: N5.98 billion (1.1%)
Social Services: N200.33 billion (38.9%)
Buni noted that in the outgoing year, the government placed strong emphasis on healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, and infrastructure, including roads, electricity, and water supply.
The governor also revealed plans to establish a dialysis centre in Gashua to support kidney patients and to construct a new General Hospital in Potiskum to decongest the existing Specialist Hospital in the coming year.
