The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs has commenced a comprehensive supervision exercise across all Women Development Centres (WDCs) and Women Cottage Industries in the state’s 44 local government areas.

The exercise, officially flagged off on Tuesday by the Honourable Commissioner, Ambassador Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD), began with inspection visits to Rimin Gado and Tofa Local Government Areas.

The initiative aims to physically verify and assess the status of women-focused development centres, inspect available machines, identify operational challenges, and recommend practical solutions to enhance the delivery of women empowerment programs.

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Sani underscored the government’s commitment to revitalizing WDCs and empowering women across the state.

“This is not just a visit; it’s a serious commitment to transforming women’s lives.

“When women are empowered at the local level, the ripple effect benefits their families, communities, and the state at large,” she said.

At Tofa, the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Yakubu Ibrahim Adis, welcomed the Commissioner and appealed for the establishment of a permanent Women Development Centre and cottage industry in the area.

He emphasized the urgent need for structured support systems to boost women’s economic participation.

Similarly, the Rimin Gado Local Government Chairman, Hon. Sani Salisu Jili, urged the Ministry to prioritize girl-child education and youth empowerment, noting their vital role in promoting sustainable community development.

The Director of the Women Department, Hajiya Bilkisu Shafi’u Jibrin, commended the Commissioner’s proactive leadership and dedication to grassroots empowerment.

She highlighted that when properly supported, Women Development Centres have the capacity to significantly transform lives and local economies.

The ongoing state-wide tour reaffirms the Kano State Government’s dedication to ensuring all empowerment programs remain functional, impactful, and inclusive.

Data collected from the visits will serve as a foundation for future policy decisions and targeted interventions.
