The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the 2025 admissions deadline for public universities across Nigeria from 31 October to 17 November 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Board said the decision followed emerging circumstances that required giving institutions additional time to conclude their admission processes.
JAMB recalled that the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions, chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, on 18 July 2025, had initially fixed October 31 as the deadline for all public universities to complete their admissions.
According to the statement, the extension became necessary for two main reasons: an appeal by the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU) and the recent accreditation of new academic programs by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“AVCNU has specially appealed for an extension due to the disruption caused by several factors, including a court order directing that the status quo should remain on the 2025/2026 admission list, which was only lifted by the same court on October 28, 2025,” JAMB said.
The Board further noted that in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the NUC had, on 29 October 2025, released a list of 229 newly accredited programs across 37 universities, with admissions into those courses just beginning.
JAMB commended the diligence and cooperation of public universities in meeting the earlier deadline, adding that the extension is intended to ensure fairness and inclusivity across all institutions.
The Board emphasized that the new deadline of November 17, 2025, is final and must be strictly adhered to. It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process aligned with national education goals and institutional autonomy.
