12 Political Parties Join LG Council Elections Jigawa

No fewer than 12 political parties, including All Progressives Congress (APC), New Nigeria Peoples Party Labour Party (LP), (NNPP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have joined the race for the 27 seats of local government chairmen and 287 councilors in the forthcoming 5th October local government polls in Jigawa state.

The Executive Chairman of Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISEC), Auwalu Harbo revealed this while briefing newsmen on their preparation for the conduct of the exercise.

He said, the Commission has recruited over 14,794 Adhoc staff and they have been trained to ensure a hitch-free exercise.

The Chairman noted that the election will be conducted at 4,522 polling units in the 287 political wards from across the 27 local government areas of the state.

He said: “As we have less than two weeks to go for the election, the commission has already reached 95 percent in terms of preparation, besides the recruitment of ad-hoc staff, we have received the delivery of sensitive and non-sensitive materials.

“We have received the voters registered from the INEC and all required materials, we are also working closely with security agencies, media, and political parties to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.”
