Musa Na-Allah, Sokoto

A remarkable example of community-driven development is emerging in Sokoto State, where the Basic School Tudun Wada has undergone a transformative revival powered by local commitment and partnership.

What began as a determined effort by parents, teachers, and community leaders has now earned state-wide recognition.

On Monday, the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) of Basic School Tudun Wada received commendation from the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for its outstanding contribution to improving learning conditions at the school.

During a courtesy visit to SUBEB headquarters in Bado, the Executive Chairman, Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, praised the SBMC for its dedication to educational development, describing it as “a shining example of community partnership and selfless commitment.”

“This is what Governor Ahmad Aliyu’s education reform stands for, people-driven progress.

“When communities take ownership of schools, education becomes everyone’s responsibility,” he said

The SBMC delegation was led by Dr. Ahmad Rufai, alongside the school principal and the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) chairman.

They expressed appreciation for SUBEB’s recent interventions, which include the construction of a one-storey classroom block with six classrooms, provision of modern desks, learning materials, improved security measures, and the school’s upgrade from primary to junior secondary level.

Dr. Rufai said the intervention had revived confidence in public education among parents. “Our children now learn with confidence and joy,” he said.

“SUBEB’s support has not only improved our facilities but restored dignity to teaching and learning.”

He also commended Tambuwal for ensuring that primary school teachers benefited from the new N70,000 minimum wage, an action he described as “bold and humane.”

However, he appealed for further support to repair a damaged borehole, leaking roofs, and dilapidated classrooms affected by seasonal rains.

Responding, the SUBEB Chairman pledged continued support, promising to upgrade the school’s borehole to a solar-powered system and carry out the requested renovations.

“You have done your part; it is now our turn to sustain your efforts,” he said.

The meeting was attended by senior SUBEB officials, including the Board Secretary, Mamuda Ahmad Wamakko, and Directors Tukur Abdullahi and Muhammad Abubakar.

It also provided a platform to discuss strategies to deepen school-community collaboration across the state.

For the people of Tudun Wada, the story of Basic School Tudun Wada is a testament to what communities can achieve when united by purpose, transforming education one school, one child, and one dream at a time.
