Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed reports claiming he has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

The governor’s reaction came after several online platforms alleged that he had abandoned the party that brought him to power to join the ruling APC.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, debunked the reports, calling them the handiwork of political detractors attempting to distract the Otti administration from its development agenda.

Kanu said those spreading the rumours are unsettled by the governor’s achievements and his growing popularity across the state.

“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu said.

He added that Otti’s focus remains on rebuilding Abia, ensuring transparency in governance, and making sure that every part of the state benefits from his administration’s programmes.

The commissioner also recalled that during the October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the governor made it clear that his priority is not political power games but genuine service and the transformation of Abia State.

Reaffirming the governor’s loyalty to the Labour Party, Kanu said Otti’s government is anchored on accountability, fiscal discipline, infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and inclusive development.

He urged Abians to disregard the defection rumours, describing them as another attempt to divert public attention from the ongoing progress in the state.

“Governor Alex Otti remains steadfast in his mission to build a new Abia founded on truth, justice, and equity — under the banner of the Labour Party,” Kanu added.
