The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has indefinitely postponed its 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2025, citing “recent developments” within the party.

The announcement was made in a statement by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, which noted that the National Working Committee (NWC) approved the postponement during an emergency meeting on Monday.

The decision comes amid escalating turmoil within the party, including internal leadership disputes at the Federal High Court in Abuja and high-profile defections in Kaduna State.

On Tuesday, three PDP members of the House of Representatives from Kaduna State—Hussaini Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Abdullahi (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Abdullahi (Sabon Gari)—officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Their letters of defection were read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen in the presence of Governor Uba Sani, who warmly welcomed the lawmakers to the ruling party.

The defections, long anticipated due to deepening divisions within Kaduna PDP, are seen as a major boost to APC’s influence in the state. Ahmed stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters and is aimed at attracting more development to his constituency. Aliyu Abdullahi and Sadiq Abdullahi’s exit is viewed as part of a broader political realignment ahead of upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, PDP’s internal crisis intensified at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where National Chairman Umar Damagum and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) clashed over who has the authority to appoint legal representation for the party.

The dispute arose during a hearing of a suit filed by three aggrieved members—Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah George (PDP Secretary, South-South)—seeking to stop the party’s planned national convention. While Damagum authorised Chris Uche (SAN) to represent the party, Ajibade insisted he alone had the constitutional authority to appoint counsel.

Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, adjourned the proceedings briefly to allow both leaders to consult, but reconciliation efforts failed. The hearing has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025.

The developments highlight growing instability within the PDP as the party contends with internal leadership disputes and defections ahead of the next electoral cycle.
