Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately remove the state’s Commissioner of Police over what he described as incompetence and a failure to discharge his duties responsibly.
He appealed on Wednesday during the celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over the recent conduct of the police command, particularly the withdrawal of personnel during the Independence Day ceremony—a move he branded “unpatriotic and uncalled for.”
The Governor argued that such actions send the wrong message to citizens on a day meant to symbolize national unity, patriotism, and collective progress.
He noted that the absence of police personnel at the official celebration not only compromised public safety but also undermined the spirit of solidarity that Independence Day embodies.
