Kano State Government has launched the training of 380 youths in its first batch of volunteers under the newly established Special Anti-Phone Snatching and VIP Protection Guards.

The program, flagged off at the Kano State Corporate Security Institute, Gabasawa, is a two-week intensive exercise aimed at equipping participants with the discipline and skills to support security agencies in tackling crimes such as phone snatching, thuggery, and other related offences across the state.

Commandant of the institute, retired Captain Muhammad Bello Mai Gaskiya, said the training would cover paramilitary drills, defensive driving, VIP protection, drug abuse prevention, and counselling.

Lectures are also being delivered by officials from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and Hisbah Corps.

He urged the participants to take the training seriously, stressing that their role would be vital in restoring peace and protecting lives and property in communities across the state.

At the end of the program, the recruits will be formally absorbed into the state security structure and placed on a monthly stipend.

Some of the trainees, including Asiya Musa from Kano Municipal Council, Nuhu Alkasim Ya’u, and Hauwa Ahmad Bunkure, thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity, pledging to serve with dedication. They noted that the initiative would not only curb crime but also provide employment for young people.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (Rtd), recently inspected the facilities at the Gabasawa Corporate Security Institute.

During the tour, he assessed offices, hostels, training grounds, and other infrastructure, commending the management for maintaining high standards and urging staff to remain committed to the institute’s objectives.
