On Thursday, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, approved the recruitment of 4,315 former Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) volunteer teachers into the state’s permanent and pensionable teaching service.

The Governor, who presented appointment letters to the teachers at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, urged them to demonstrate dedication, integrity, and commitment to character-building in their pupils.

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the latest exercise builds on previous approvals by the administration, which absorbed 5,500 teachers in 2023, 5,632 in 2024, and 4,000 in May 2025 from the BESDA voluntary scheme.

Governor Yusuf described the development as part of his administration’s sustained effort to rescue and reform the education sector in Kano.

In addition, he announced the recruitment of another 2,616 teachers, the launch of a N200 million vehicle loan scheme, and the distribution of 444 motorcycles and 300 computers to boost school monitoring and evaluation.

The Governor also directed the reopening of Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School with 180 pupils, the upgrading of a school in Ungogo Local Government into a boarding facility, and the engagement of 17,000 watchmen across schools in the state.

Highlighting the impact of his reforms, the Governor noted Kano’s recent recognition as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO examination.
