The Kano State Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) has met to review security deployments and finalise strategies for the peaceful conduct of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency re-run election and the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, 16th August 2025.
The meeting, held on Wednesday at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, brought together heads and representatives of security and law enforcement agencies to assess previous election security operations and agree on a comprehensive plan for the upcoming polls.
In his opening remarks, the Co-chair of ICCES and Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, described the session as crucial for refining security arrangements.
“This meeting allows us to evaluate our past strategies, identify successes and challenges, and fine-tune our deployments to guarantee peaceful re-run and by-elections.
“I commend the synergy among security agencies and appreciate everyone’s dedication to maintaining peace in Kano State,” he said.
The Chairman of ICCES and Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Amb. Zango Abdul, praised the collaborative spirit among security agencies, commending the police for leading coordination efforts, the military for their swift response to emergencies, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for intelligence sharing.
He urged members to remain neutral, apolitical, and focused on ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
After reviewing the successes and shortcomings of past polls, ICCES members agreed on a detailed operational plan, including clearance operations across the state.
All necessary security measures, they said, are now in place to ensure a transparent and hitch-free exercise.
Agencies represented at the meeting included the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Kano State Police Command assured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property before, during, and after the elections.
Citizens were urged to exercise their civic duties peacefully and report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.
