A Kwara State High Court has ordered the final forfeiture of two tractors and two tricycles recovered from Kayode Oyin-Zubair, a former aide to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to the Self-Reliance Economic Advancement Programme (SEAP).
Justice Haleema Saleeman delivered the ruling in Ilorin, dismissing Oyin-Zubair’s attempt to overturn an earlier interim forfeiture order.
The judge held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had proven that the vehicles were acquired with diverted public funds.
Oyin-Zubair, who served as Special Assistant on Community Intervention from 2020 to 2023, was accused of diverting N72 million from a N192 million transport scheme financed by SEAP.
The initiative was aimed at supporting members of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).
According to the EFCC, the vehicles were bought in Oyin-Zubair’s name using funds meant to be repaid by beneficiaries of the transport scheme. The items, valued at N57.4 million, were recovered from a warehouse in Ilorin in 2024.
EFCC counsel, Mustapha Kaigama, said evidence presented in court traced the vehicles to the misappropriated funds. Justice Saleeman ruled in favour of the EFCC and granted permanent forfeiture of the assets to SEAP.
