Kano State Government has temporarily suspended its monthly sanitation exercise for July 2025 to accommodate the upcoming convocation ceremony of Northwest University, Kano.

The decision was announced in a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Murtala Shehu Umar.

According to the statement, the move is to ensure that the university’s convocation, a significant milestone for graduating students, proceeds without disruption.

The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru M. Hashim, explained that the suspension is a one-time adjustment intended to facilitate the smooth conduct of the ceremony.

“The suspension is necessary to allow the university’s convocation ceremony to proceed without any hindrance. We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of residents during this period,” he said.

Dr. Hashim assured residents that the sanitation exercise will resume in August, stressing that the ministry remains committed to maintaining environmental cleanliness across the state.

He also urged the public to continue practicing proper waste disposal during the break and avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

“The Ministry is dedicated to ensuring a clean and healthy environment in Kano. We call on all residents to support our sanitation teams and work together to uphold environmental hygiene,” the Commissioner added.

The government extended its best wishes to the graduating students of Northwest University, praying for a successful and peaceful convocation.
