Meta and NerdzFactory Company have launched the 2025 edition of the Safe Online Project, a digital literacy initiative targeting over 14,000 participants across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, and Ekiti States.
Themed “Empowering Communities for a Safer Digital Future,” the program is part of Meta’s broader My Digital World initiative aimed at equipping young people with the skills and tools to navigate the digital space responsibly and securely.
Speaking on the project, Phil Oduor, Meta’s Head of Policy Programs for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the training is designed to foster a safer online environment and support youth digital wellbeing.
“Our Safe Online Program is dedicated to empowering young individuals with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly,” Oduor said.
Ade Olowojoba, Founding Partner at NerdzFactory, highlighted the importance of digital literacy to national development. “This year’s edition will deepen our impact by empowering even more young Nigerians to become safe and informed digital citizens,” he stated.
Now in its third year, the Safe Online Project targets youth, educators, parents, and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, promoting awareness around online safety and responsible digital engagement.
Programs Supervisor, Omozele Umoren, noted that the 2025 strategy includes actively involving parents and guardians to strengthen digital safety practices at home and in schools.
“By engaging students, educators, parents, and communities, we aim to create a ripple effect that embeds digital safety into everyday learning,” she said.
