Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has flagged off the distribution of essential farm inputs to farmers under a 300-hectare agricultural pilot scheme at Gani-Gaku in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The initiative, designed to tackle food insecurity and boost agricultural productivity, will allocate 300 hectares to each of the state’s local government areas. In the pilot phase, one hectare each will be distributed to farmers across six LGAs: Demsa, Ganye, Hong, Maiha, Madagali, and Michika.

The distributed items include fertilizers, herbicides, improved seeds, and other essential agricultural inputs.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Fintiri described the scheme as a proactive step to combat looming food insecurity while promoting wealth creation through sustainable farming practices.

“The 300 hectares per LGA pilot scheme is a well-thought-out response to combating food insecurity,” Fintiri said. “It combines public sensitization, strategic visioning, and adoption of agricultural best practices. This is our commitment to building a green economy and ensuring food sufficiency.”

He explained that the initiative is backed by a high-level State Food Security Committee composed of inter-ministerial officials and agricultural experts. The committee, he said, has been working diligently to introduce innovative solutions like the cluster farming model adopted in the pilot.

“This year, 300 farmers per LGA will cultivate 300 hectares in the pilot areas. They’ll receive prepared land, improved inputs, and access to extension services.

“The goal is to empower farmers and showcase modern agricultural methods,” the governor added.

Fintiri emphasized that once the pilot is successful, the programme will be expanded to cover all 21 LGAs in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Professor David Finchiwa Jatau, noted that the initiative is designed to promote cooperation among farmers by encouraging shared use of resources, enhancing access to support services, and streamlining marketing strategies.

He said, “This approach will make extension services more efficient, improve yields, and attract production support from development partners and agribusinesses.”

Expressing their gratitude, some beneficiaries, including Alhaji Halilu Saidu and Mrs. Mema Fwa, commended the state government for the support and pledged to make the most of the opportunity to boost food production and improve their livelihoods.
