Kano Develops Medium-Term Sector Strategy To Enhance Quality Education

Kano State Government, in collaboration with Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE), has commenced a 5-day workshop to develop the 2026-2028 Medium-Term Sector Strategy (MTSS) aimed at enhancing quality education.

Declaring the workshop open on Wednesday in Kaduna, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, said the Workshop was crucial in articulating the education sector’s key objectives, addressing its critical challenges, and prioritizing actionable interventions over the next three years.

Dr. Ali Makoda, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Baffa Muhammed, disclosed that by developing the Medium-Term Sector Strategy Plan, the government will be able to streamline the due process of spending funds as budgeted for the implementation of education infrastructure.

“Considering the plan by Kano State Government to revitalize the education sector, this workshop is very important and essential.

“It makes us understand the procedure on how this fund can be accessed and spent judiciously,” he stated.

Ali Makoda emphasized that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has introduced numerous development projects in the education sector, which require strategic implementation to ensure optimal outcomes.

According to the Commissioner, Kano State budgeted 31.5% of its 2025 budget which required for a strategic plan and implementation of due process to achieve quality education in the state.

Dr. Makoda who described the workshop as timely and educative, urged the participants to implement what they would learn for the betterment of the state education sector.

The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reforms Haladu Mohammed explained that at the end of the workshop, a very good foundation of 3 year education plan would be created to meet the yearnings and aspirations of people in the state.

” This activity is meant to revive where we are in education, where we want to be and what we have available to achieve what we want to achieve.

“It is very foundational as it will set the stage for how education is going to be transformed in Kano.

In a separate goodwill message, the Chairman Kano State Accountability Forum On Education (K-SAFE) Dr. Auwalu Halilu, the Chairman School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Tijjani Halladu Baraya and representatives from Kano State Ministry of Planning and Budget, Ministry of Finance and Plan International described the strategic as shared responsibility to build a resilient, inclusive, and high-quality education system that leaves no learner behind.

Participants of the workshop were drawn from the Kano State Ministry of Education, Budget and Planning, Finance, Development Partners, and Civil Society Organizations.

This initiative demonstrates the Kano State Government’s commitment to improving the education sector, aligning with its recent efforts to enhance education quality.
