Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has resigned as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.

In his resignation letter, the former Kano State governor cited health reasons, saying he needs to focus on his well-being.

Ganduje, who became APC chairman in August 2023, had a tenure marked by controversies, internal party disputes, and legal battles.

While his resignation letter points to health concerns, sources within the party suggest growing internal pressure and dissatisfaction may have contributed to his decision to step down.

There have also been allegations of financial impropriety during his time in office. Some party members accused his leadership of imposing excessive financial demands, particularly on aspirants seeking the APC ticket for the Federal Capital Territory area council elections.

His tenure saw legal challenges, including an April 2024 ruling by a Kano State High Court that temporarily restrained him from parading himself as a party member, following a suit filed by party executives.

In contrast, a separate case filed by the APC North Central Forum seeking his removal was struck out by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The APC is yet to issue an official statement on Ganduje’s resignation, leaving room for speculation about the implications of his exit and the future direction of the party’s leadership.
