The Senator representing Edo South senatorial district in the 10th National Assembly, Barrister Neda Imasuen, has boosted cashew farming in the State with the commencement of the distribution of 10,000 seedlings to farmers in the state.
Imasuen distributed the cashew seedlings to members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in his Senatorial district in Benin City on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, he advised landowners to take to farming.
Represented by his legislative aide, Derrick Uhunmagho, the 10th national assembly senator opined that farming is the way to go for the common man.
“If you have land, you’re a potential farmer. Instead of planting flowers that have little or no economic value, I advise everyone to plant productive crops that will yield cash benefits,” he said.
In his remarks, Bako Dogwo, the Edo State Chairman of AFAN described the Labour Party Senator as a man who has brought smiles to the faces of farmers in Edo South.
Dogwo added that 1,200 farmers will benefit from the first phase of the distribution, with each farmer getting 300 seedlings.
He said the remaining seedlings would be distributed to other farmers after profiling them.
“Cashew is a lifetime investment. In the next three years, we will start to reap a great yield from the seedlings.
“He had earlier distributed 1,200 bags of fertilizers to our members. We thank him and we beg him to do more because farmers are proud of him,” he stated.
He, urged Nigerians to key into the farming revolution because it is the way to the future for the common man.
On his part, Osama Osaro, the Vice Chairman of AFAN, Edo South Senatorial district thanked the senator for providing the cashew seedlings to boost farming in the Senatorial district.
According to him, this is going to be a plus to what we are doing. We’re very grateful, but we want to encourage him to do more.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Envagelist Ben Edo-Osagie Florence, described the gesture as “very marvelous.”
Florence added that Neda Imasuen has shown his constituents that they should be strong in their farming business.
