Sokoto Orders MDAs to Submit Monthly Expenditure Reports or Face Sanctions

Sokoto State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, on Monday, issued a directive to all State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), mandating the submission of monthly expenditure reports in a standardized format.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Zayyana, gave the directive, adding that the directive is in line with the state, national, and international public financial management standards.

He said the method was also aimed to promote transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to budgetary provisions.

According to the statement, the ministry of budget and economic planing is legally empowered to review, analyze, and consolidate expenditure reports across all MDAs, and would fully exercise its authority.

The Commissioner further stated that each MDA is expected to submit detailed reports covering, Capital Expenditure, Overhead Expenditure and Personnel Expenditure, adding that the reports must follow the official reporting template to ensure uniformity and clarity.

He said Failure to comply with this directive according the statement may lead to budgetary sanctions, including the withholding of future funds and allocations.

He said the ministry has made it clear that non compliance will not be tolerated.”

“For guidance and clarification, MDAs are advised to contact the Director of Budget at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.”

“This initiative is a cornerstone of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s commitment to fiscal discipline and responsible governance.

“All MDAs are urged to comply fully as the administration moves to strengthen the financial integrity of the state,” he added.
