As Kano pilgrims prepare for their symbolic journey to Mina today, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf paid an unscheduled visit to the pilgrims’ central kitchen on Monday to inspect the quality, hygiene, and coordination of meals being served to pilgrims under the care of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
The visit, which took place shortly after the preparation of the evening meal, saw the Governor meticulously tour the entire facility, examining cooking areas, food storage sections, hygiene protocols, and even the conditions under which raw ingredients are preserved.
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the standard of operations at the kitchen and commended the staff for maintaining cleanliness, quality, and discipline in service delivery.
“This inspection is about accountability and welfare.
“Our pilgrims deserve the best. What they eat affects their health and strength for the Hajj rites. I am impressed by the commitment and professionalism I have seen here,” he stated.
The evening meal prepared during the governor’s visit consisted of tuwo da miyar kuka, a traditional Hausa delicacy made from sorghum flour and baobab leaf soup, served with well-cooked meat.
In a symbolic gesture, Governor Yusuf scooped a portion of the food to inspect its consistency and ensure that proper nutritional standards were met.
In addition to the main meals, the governor also examined the assortment of fruits and refreshments provided to the pilgrims, including apples, citrus fruits, and bottled water, all essential for hydration and nourishment during the hot Saudi climate.
Governor Yusuf used the opportunity to commend Na’ima Idris Kitchen, the catering company contracted to handle the feeding of Kano pilgrims.
He praised their commitment and cautioned them against complacency, urging the staff to sustain their energy and excellence throughout the pilgrimage.
“This is a sacred responsibility, and we trust you to uphold it. We cannot afford lapses in food quality or safety, especially during this critical phase of the Hajj,” he added.
Responding on behalf of the kitchen management, the CEO of Na’ima Idris Kitchen expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit and gave assurance of continued commitment.
“We are honored by your confidence in us, Your Excellency. I assure you, we will not disappoint,” he said.
Among the governor’s entourage during the visit was His Royal Highness, the Emir of Karaye, Muhammad Maharaz, who also serves as Chairman of the Kano State Hajj Delegation Committee.
His presence underscored the seriousness with which the state government is overseeing the welfare of its pilgrims.
Several state commissioners also accompanied the governor, senior government officials, and members of the central Hajj committee, highlighting the administration’s deep commitment to the well-being of its pilgrims, even while thousands of kilometers away from home.
With Kano pilgrims set to begin their movement to Mina, Governor Yusuf’s proactive leadership continues to reflect a firm commitment to service, transparency, and spiritual responsibility.
