Ebb and Folk-shrinks: Literal Situation of Jigawa State Tertiary Institutions

Jigawa State, however, is one of the most educationally disadvantaged states, particularly in tertiary education.

The state had no single university for the first 20 years of its existence; in 2012, the Federal Government established the Federal University, followed by the administration of Sule Lamido, who established the State University in Kafin Hausa.

But, presently the state has acquired another university, in addition to seven tertiary institutions. The development will enhance the literacy needs of the people.

In the case of Sule Lamido University, while the state government’s funding system is impressive, indigenes’ registrations and other fees are extremely low.

In some of these institutions, female students pay more than half of what male students pay, making Jigawa State’s policy of free education for female students intolerable.

However, other institutions have very different systems; the funding system is unimpressive, and the fees are high. Enrollment in these schools has been adversely affected by these factors.

To meet its socioeconomic objectives, Jigawa State needs to give technical and vocational education top priority.

There is a need for His Excellency to look into the situations of these institutions.

The State at this juncture to effectively fight unemployment among the youth to create sustainable careers, the state should consider technical education first.

The state must have top-notch educational institutions that generate teachers to attain high standards for instruction and learning.

The actual state of these institutions is that their output and quality are declining.

The high tuition costs, in comparison to the state university, are deterring applicants.

The two percent local government contributions should be distributed to all postsecondary institutions, not just Sule Lamido University, to adequately address the issues.
