Hon. Babagana Yakubu Mohammed, a Senior Special Assistant to Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has tendered his resignation and defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In the letter obtained by newsmen in Damaturu on Sunday, Babagana expressed frustration over what he described as the abandonment of dedicated party loyalists, particularly those who worked at the grassroots to secure victory for the APC.
“Accept this as a formal resignation as Senior Special Assistant to Governor Buni effective immediately,” the letter stated.
He lamented that despite his unwavering loyalty and commitment to the APC, his contributions had been sidelined by party leadership at both local and state levels.
“I sincerely apologise for the abrupt timing of this announcement. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I have decided to resign,” he added.
Describing the move as a difficult but necessary step, Babagana criticized the APC-led government in Yobe for what he termed a failure to address the basic needs of the people and a growing disconnection from the party’s ideals.
“It pains me to see our government’s inability to fulfil its promises, leading to widespread disillusionment and a loss of trust among the electorate,” he said.
He thanked Governor Buni for the opportunity to serve and wished him well as he continues to lead the state.
