Musa Na Allah, Sokoto
The former Governor of Zamfara State and Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, Senator Abdulazeez Abubakar Yari, on Friday commissioned the newly completed N4.4 billion Mabera Roads Project in Sokoto metropolis, a landmark initiative of the Governor Ahmed Aliyu administration.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by top political figures, traditional rulers, and jubilant residents, marked a defining moment in the state’s development journey and reaffirmed the growing cooperation among Northern leaders determined to uplift their communities.
Senator Yari, visibly impressed by the quality and scale of the project, described it as a shining example of visionary governance. He commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritizing the needs of the people through strategic infrastructural renewal that touches lives directly.
He said infrastructure is the heartbeat of development, noting that constructing roads goes beyond laying asphalt but connects communities, creates opportunities, and paves the way for prosperity.
He added that Governor Ahmed Aliyu has proven that leadership is about results, not rhetoric.
The former Zamfara Governor further applauded the Sokoto State Government for maintaining fiscal discipline and transparency in executing people-centered projects.
He urged other Northern leaders to emulate Governor Aliyu’s pragmatic approach to governance.
Yari said the project represents more than physical development as it symbolizes unity of purpose.
He assured the people of Sokoto and the entire North that he and other leaders would continue to work together to drive progress, reduce poverty, and restore dignity to the people, noting that Mabera is only the beginning.
In his remarks, Governor Ahmed Aliyu described the project as part of his government’s holistic development blueprint aimed at modernizing the state’s infrastructure and improving the quality of life for citizens.
He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that development reaches every corner of the state without discrimination.
The Governor said his vision is to transform Sokoto into a modern, economically vibrant, and people oriented state.
He added that the Mabera Roads Project is a critical part of this mission to open up communities, boost trade, and ease mobility for the people.
Governor Aliyu expressed appreciation to Senator Yari for honoring the invitation, describing his presence as a gesture of solidarity that transcends politics.
He emphasized that governance must be rooted in cooperation, not competition, and said the partnership exemplifies how leaders should unite to serve the people beyond political or state boundaries.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Dantsoho, explained that the Mabera Roads Project was designed to enhance drainage, reduce flooding, ease traffic congestion, and stimulate small scale economic activities.
He said the completion of the N4.4 billion project had restored dignity to the residents who had long suffered due to poor infrastructure.
Representing the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Dr. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, Barrister Rilwanu Bello (Magajin Rafin Sokoto) commended both Senator Yari and Governor Aliyu for their steadfast dedication to public service.
He described the project as a legacy of leadership and compassion that will outlive its initiators.
Community leaders, including Alhaji Bello Mabera, the Village Head of Mabera, expressed deep gratitude to the government, saying the road network had brought an end to decades of neglect.
For the people, he said, the project is more than a road, it is hope restored, dignity reclaimed, and progress assured.
Residents of Mabera were visibly elated as they celebrated the inauguration with songs, cultural displays, and prayers for the leaders.
Hauwa’u Shua’ibu, a local trader, said the new road had changed their daily lives, noting that before now, they suffered from bad roads and poor access to the market.
She said business has become easier and the community feels alive again.
The grand ceremony ended with the symbolic ribbon-cutting by Senator Yari and Governor Aliyu amid cheers and applause.
The event marked the completion of a major infrastructure project and stood as a powerful statement of unity, leadership, and shared purpose for a better North.
