Former Senator representing Katsina Central, Abubakar Sadiq Yar’adua, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing deep frustrations with the ruling party’s governance.
In his resignation letter dated July 28 and addressed to his ward chairman, Yar’adua accused the APC-led administration of enacting policies that have “undermined, destroyed, and desecrated” the lives, dignity, and livelihoods of Nigerians.
He described the current leadership as “bandits in government,” echoing and expanding on a term once used by former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Yar’adua, who vied for the Katsina governorship in the 2023 elections under the APC, criticized the party for prioritizing elite interests and foreign corporate influence, at the expense of ordinary citizens.
He announced his defection to the ADC, a party he described as “committed to reshaping Nigeria’s political future,” and urged his supporters and allies across Katsina State to follow suit and join him in the new platform.
