Issues related to women’s access to finance, agro-inputs, and access to markets among other women in agriculture will be addressed in the ongoing National Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) policy domestication in Kano.

This was revealed by a consultant with the Development Research Project Center (dRPC), Professor Bala Kofar Mata, during a stakeholder engagement in building partnerships with the private sector for effective domestication of WEE in Kano state, organized by the state Ministry for Women Affairs, Children and Disable in collaboration with dRPC and Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF).

According to him, it is apparent that Agriculture is one of the key pillars of WEE, women have been facing serious challenges in the sector, especially of exclusion hence the need for WEE to capture women’s activities in agriculture.

He explained that several meetings have been conducted on the domestication processes adding that considering the vital role that the private sector is playing for being the largest provider of employment in the country, no effective domestication can be achieved without the private sector contribution.

Similarly, addressing participants, the Kano state commissioner for Women’s Affairs, Children, and Disabled, Aisha Lawan Saji stated that the state government has done a lot in training and empowering women in the state as women have a role to play in societal development.

Represented by the Director of Women in the Ministry, Bilkisu Shai’ub Jibrin, the commissioner said it will give all the necessary support needed for an effective domestication of the WEE policy in the state.
