Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused Judith Amaechi, the wife of his predecessor and political rival, Rotimi Amaechi, of receiving N48 billion from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) under the guise of training women in the Niger Delta.
Wike made the claim during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while responding to recent remarks by Amaechi, who asserted seniority over him in politics. Wike dismissed the claim, stating that leadership should be judged by integrity, not chronology. “Being governor before me doesn’t make you a better politician,” he said, recalling that he had already been elected chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in 1998 before meeting Amaechi.
In a sharp turn, Wike questioned the legitimacy of Judith Amaechi’s business activities, challenging the description of her as an “industrialist.” He said, “When did your wife become an industrialist? What company does she own? Let’s not use our wives to score political points.”
The minister then called on President Bola Tinubu to release the forensic audit of the NDDC, which he claims contains evidence that Amaechi’s wife was allegedly allocated N4 billion monthly during her husband’s tenure as Minister of Transportation. “That audit report was buried by former Attorney-General Malami. Let it be made public,” Wike urged.
As of press time, neither Rotimi Amaechi nor his wife has publicly responded to the allegations. The development marks another chapter in the intensifying rivalry between the two Rivers political heavyweights.
