‘Why I started an NGO that cares for cemetery’- Bauchi First Lady

The founder of the Al-Muhibbah Foundation, Hajia Aisha Bala Mohammed, has revealed why she started a nonprofit organization that cares for cemetery and how the move metamorphosed into a multi- faceted organization.

Hajiya Aisha Bala who is also the first lady of Bauchi state said she initially established the foundation to care for cemeteries, and the foundation has grown into a multifaceted organization serving communities across health, education, agriculture, women’s empowerment, and skill acquisition.

“Why we began with a focus on cemeteries is that I believed it was important to care for the final resting places of our loved ones because we will also join them someday. Over time, our mission expanded to address the broader needs of our society,” the founder shared.

Speaking during a media chat with an indigenous TV station, the first lady expressed her readiness to continue philanthropic programs towards the development of the society.

She also highlighted some of the key achievements recorded by the Al-Muhibbah Foundation. According to her, the foundation has built two hospitals in Jamda and Alkaleri, donated ambulances for emergency response, and provided scholarships from primary school to higher institutions to a reasonable number of some vulnerable in the state.

She added that the foundation had also launched the ‘Not Too Late to Learn’ program, giving married women a chance to proceed with their education.

While explaining further, the first lady revealed that Al-Muhibbah Foundation has taken a groundbreaking step with the creation of the Al-Muhibbah Open University, the first of its kind in the North East of Nigeria adding that the institution aims to provide quality higher education to local communities.
