The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has, on behalf of the state government, congratulated the newly inaugurated executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Correspondents’ Chapel, Kano State chapter, led by Comrade Murtala Adewale of The Guardian Newspapers.
“Your emergence through a peaceful and democratic process is a clear testament to the confidence and trust your colleagues have in your capacity to lead with integrity, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility.
“I also commend the immediate past leadership of the Chapel for its dedication and impactful service, which has laid a solid foundation for continued growth and professionalism in the media,” the Commissioner stated.
He noted that the Ministry recognizes the strategic role played by the Correspondents’ Chapel in shaping public discourse and projecting government policies.
Comrade Waiya described the Correspondents’ Chapel as the lens through which the wider world perceives developments in the state.
He therefore urged the members to uphold the values of accuracy, objectivity, and fairness in their reportage, especially in an era challenged by the spread of misinformation and fake news.
“As a Ministry, we reaffirm our commitment to deepening our collaboration with the media, particularly in areas of capacity building and professional development for journalists across the state.
“We are confident that under the new leadership, the bond of mutual trust and cooperation between the Ministry and the Correspondents’ Chapel will grow even stronger,” Waiya added.
The Commissioner wished the new executives a successful and productive tenure.
