Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has addressed the global participants of the 13th World Zakat and Waqf Forum Annual Meeting and International Conference ongoing in Indonesia.

Addressing participants at the Jakarta Convention Center Indonesia on Friday, Governor Idris positively commented on the theme: “New Zakat and Waqf Global Order.”

He said the theme “is decisive and timely order” rooted in compassion, justice shared prosperity, and Islamic values across the globe.

The Governor added that the timeless principles of Zakat and Waqf when properly harnessed, were not just charitable tools but powerful vehicles for sustainable social and economic development across the world.

Gov. Idris stressed the need to redefine the global approach to wealth distribution and social responsibility using Zakat and Waqf as the cornerstones of an inclusive economic system that transcends geographical, cultural, social, and political boundaries in fighting poverty, exclusion, and inequality among vulnerable society.

He urged governments at all levels, private sectors, civil society organizations, and religious organizations to strengthen their unity and cohesion in promoting the policies that make Zakat and Waqf more accessible, transparent, and impactful across the globe.

“By so doing, we would have created a successful global order, where Zakat and Waqf serve as reliable tools for addressing systemic challenges affecting poor individuals, particularly in developing countries.

“Out of my keen interest in developing the issue of Zakat and Waqf in Kebbi State, I established a Ministry for Religious Affairs and re-invigorated the Zakat and Waqf Board at the initial stage of my administration,” he noted.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General of World Zakat and Waqf Forum, Dr Mohammed Ghazali M.D Noor appreciated the gesture of the governor for finding the opportunity despite his hectic schedule to attend the conference.

He encouraged him to put in more effort in promoting Islamic social finance for the betterment of society.

The event was graced by the Deputy Secretary General, who doubled as the Chairman of the Association of Zakat and Waqf Operators in Nigeria (AZAWON), Malam Muhammad Lawal Maidoki (Sadaukin Sakkwato) alongside seven other DSGs across different Continents of the globe.
