The Institute for African Culture and International Understanding (IACIU), a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Grade II Institute, has urged for blending culture and technology to ensure peace and security in a time marked by frequent conflicts resulting in loss of lives and property.

At a workshop organised by the institute on “The Role of Culture in Achieving Peace and Security in Nigeria” at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, various experts proposed recommendations.

Participants, including professionals from academia, businesses, and socio-cultural groups, stressed the significance of integrating culture and youth involvement for lasting peace.

The Director of the Institute, Professor Emeritus Peter Okebukola, highlighted Nigeria’s challenges with social vices and advocated for prioritising education to prevent the recruitment of youth into extremist groups.

The event concluded with an emphasis on technology’s role in fostering peace and recommendations forwarded to authorities for policy considerations.
