UBEC Promises Digital Libraries For Schools

Editor

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has reaffirmed its commitment to establishing digital libraries in basic education schools across the country and offering cost-effective ways of bringing educational resources to learners and teachers.

The National Coordinator of the UBEC Digital Resource Center, DRC, Professor Bashir Galadanci, reaffirmed this while opening a three-day training workshop on Digital Library and Education Resource Management at the UBEC Digital Resource Center, Abuja.

Galadanci, who represented the UBEC Executive Secretary, noted that “digital libraries had brought about diverse, multiple and exciting media formats including videos, games, and interactive simulations.”

In her welcome remarks, the Head of Capacity Building at the UBEC DRC, Dr Hafsat L. Kontagora, explained that the training was designed to enhance the understanding of the role of digital libraries and educational resources in Smart Education delivery and provide hands-on experience in organising, categorising, and managing digital content.

She stated that the workshop aimed to improve the skill sets of brilliant school teachers and ICT personnel and equip them with the necessary knowledge to manage digital libraries and effectively use educational resources to engender positive teaching and learning outcomes.

The three-day training attended by teachers and ICT managers from the first set of 13 functional, innovative schools in Nigeria covered key aspects of digital libraries, educational resource management, and future trends in educational technology.
