Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has accepted the key conditions for a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, as part of a renewed diplomatic effort to end the ongoing conflict.

In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “Israel has agreed to the necessary conditions to finalise a 60-day ceasefire.

During this time, we will work with all parties to end the war.” He added that Qatar and Egypt would deliver the final proposal to Hamas and urged the group to accept the deal, warning, “It will not get better — IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

While Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon confirmed that Israel is “absolutely” ready for a ceasefire, there remains uncertainty over whether Hamas will accept the proposed terms.

Danon accused Hamas of “playing hardball” and warned that Israel would intensify military operations if negotiations fail.

“The war will end when the hostages are back home,” he said, referring to the estimated 50 Israelis still held in Gaza.

Trump’s announcement comes ahead of his planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu next week, where he pledged to be “very firm” in pushing for peace.

“I think we’ll have a deal next week,” he said, expressing confidence in Netanyahu’s willingness to end hostilities.

Talks in Washington also continued Tuesday, with Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer meeting U.S. officials including Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Vice President JD Vance.

The push for a ceasefire follows renewed violence in Gaza. At least 20 Palestinians were reportedly killed in an Israeli airstrike on a seafront café in Gaza City on Monday, amid new evacuation orders in the north.

The humanitarian situation remains dire, with over 56,600 Palestinians reported killed in Gaza since Israel launched its offensive in response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack that killed approximately 1,200 people in Israel.

The Israeli military said it is reviewing reports of civilians being harmed near aid distribution sites run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Over 170 aid organisations have called for the GHF to be shut down, accusing Israeli forces of firing on Palestinians seeking aid—claims Israel denies.

The last ceasefire, implemented in January, collapsed after only one phase of a planned three-stage process.

That deal was intended to lead to a permanent truce, prisoner exchanges, and Israel’s full withdrawal from Gaza—terms that remain major sticking points.

While Hamas continues to demand a full Israeli withdrawal and permanent ceasefire, Israel insists the war will not end until Hamas is fully dismantled.
