Musa Na Allah, Sokoto
In a decisive blow to terrorism in northwestern Nigeria, troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), have neutralized three notorious terrorist kingpins in a precision ambush in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, executed on July 25, 2025, marks a significant milestone in the military’s counter-terrorism campaign.
The ambush, which took place between Mallamawa and Mazau villages in the Tsamaye/Mai Lalle District, was based on actionable intelligence and executed with strategic timing.
The operation led to the elimination of high-profile terrorists, Kachalla Nagomma, Gurmu, and Ali Yar Daribiyar, who were long identified as masterminds behind killings, extortion, and the displacement of communities in the region.
Military sources revealed that the terrorists were on a mission to impose illegal levies and collect ransoms from already vulnerable villages when they were intercepted and killed.
The troops recovered three AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and a motorcycle, tools often used in the execution of attacks and in maintaining the group’s mobility.
The successful operation has significantly disrupted the command structure of the insurgent network operating in Sokoto’s eastern corridor.
Security analysts believe the loss of these senior commanders will lead to a breakdown in operational coordination and a drop in fighter morale.
Communities across Sabon Birni and neighboring Goronyo LGAs, including Mai Lalle, Tsamaye, and Rimaye, erupted in jubilation following the news.
Residents expressed relief and gratitude, viewing the development as a sign of the military’s strengthened resolve to restore lasting peace.
The killing of these kingpins is considered a major setback for the terrorist group’s logistics and leadership capacity and is expected to further weaken their influence in the region.
