French officials have reported that rapper Travis Scott was taken into custody in Paris following an altercation with his security.
The 33-year-old American celebrity is accused of assaulting a security officer on Friday morning at the five-star George V hotel when the guard tried to separate the two guys.
The Reuters and AFP news agencies were informed by French authorities that they had launched a criminal inquiry into “unspecified violence” against the guard.
“We are in direct communication with the local Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and will provide updates when appropriate,” a spokeswoman for Mr. Scott told BBC Newsbeat.
Mr. Scott, whose true name is Jacques Bermon Webster, was pictured on Thursday night at the Olympic basketball game between Team USA and Serbia.
He was shown with American entrepreneur Michael Rubin and fellow rapper Quavo, the former frontman of hip-hop group Migos.
Mr. Scott was detained in Miami earlier this year following a fight on a private yacht.
Prosecutors dismissed their accusation of disorderly drunkenness against him, but he is still facing a trespassing charge, according to the entertainment news website TMZ.
Mr. Scott is one of the biggest hip-hop acts in the world and a ten-time Grammy Award nominee.
He had dated Kylie Jenner before, and the two of them are parents to two kids.
Ten attendees of Scott’s Astroworld festival in Houston, Texas, perished in a crowd surge in 2021.
Despite not being charged criminally for their deaths, he is still embroiled in civil cases that claim the organizers were at blame.
With Utopia last year, he achieved his first UK number-one album which was released a week after a planned show in front of Egypt’s pyramids was cancelled.
