President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following the recent deadly attack in Jos.

The meeting comes three days after the Palm Sunday assault in Angwan Rukuba district, which left at least 28 people dead.

According to the State House media office, the governor arrived at the Villa at about 6:45 p.m.

The visit followed an earlier directive by the President summoning Mutfwang for discussions over the worsening security situation in the North-Central state.

In the aftermath of the killings, Tinubu had described the attack as barbaric and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.

Speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the Jos attack as well as a separate incident in Kahir village in Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.

“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” the President said earlier in the week.

While condemning the violence, Tinubu commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts to contain the situation and directed security agencies to intensify the manhunt for the perpetrators.

He also cautioned against portraying the attacks as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could further inflame tensions.

The meeting is expected to focus on urgent security measures to prevent further attacks in Plateau State.

Meanwhile, the President is scheduled to visit Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the killings.

The trip replaces an earlier planned visit to Ogun State, where he was to inaugurate operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport.

According to Onanuga, the President’s visit underscores his administration’s commitment to addressing the security challenges and supporting affected communities.
