President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday stormed Imo State alongside governors, ministers, and top APC leaders to commission landmark projects, using the occasion to defend his administration’s economic policies and assure Nigerians that the country has turned the corner.

Speaking at the inauguration of the 52-kilometre Mbaise-Umuahia Road, the Control-Assumpta Twin Flyover, and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre (EIICC), Tinubu said recent economic indicators show clear progress.

“The worst is over. Our economy grew by 4.23% in the second quarter of 2025, and inflation has dropped to 20.12% as of August.

“These are not just figures, they represent real progress,” he said.

Acknowledging that many Nigerians are still grappling with hardship, the president thanked citizens for their patience and resilience. “You may not feel it yet, but things are changing for the better.

“Our external reserves are growing, the naira is steadying, and Nigeria is regaining international confidence,” he added.

Tinubu dismissed his critics, insisting his government is applying sound economic policies.

“We understand financial engineering and progressive methodologies better than they do. Believe in us because we believe in you,” he told the crowd.

Governor Hope Uzodimma praised the president’s courage in taking tough decisions to reset the economy, while also unveiling his new book, A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria.

Uzodimma argued that Tinubu deserves re-election in 2027 to consolidate his achievements.

“Given all he has done through sheer courage and determination, it stands to reason that he should be allowed to finish the good work he has begun,” he declared, calling on Nigerians across party lines to rally behind the president.

He highlighted the APC’s journey since 2015, crediting Tinubu for playing a key role in the party’s formation and eventual victory over the then-incumbent PDP.

“The unprecedented triumph of the APC in 2015 was largely due to the political dexterity of our own Tinubu,” he said.

Acting APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawa Yilwatda, who chaired the book presentation, also lauded Uzodimma for documenting the party’s journey and described Tinubu’s reforms as bold and transformative.

With the inauguration of the new projects and the strong endorsement from party leaders, the event in Imo turned into a political show of strength for the APC and a rallying call for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
