The Chairman of Tarauni Local Government Area, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, has launched a free eye care initiative for residents suffering from glaucoma, trachoma, cataracts, and other vision problems.

The program, held at Unguwa Uku Hospital, initially targeted 500 beneficiaries but ended up serving over 800 people.

According to the Local Government Information Officer, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, the exercise, conducted under the ABBA CARE program, focused on improving eye health through examinations, free medication, and the distribution of eyeglasses to those in need.

Hon. Sekure explained that the initiative aligns with the Kano State Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Abba Kabir Yusuf, to deliver quality healthcare services, particularly in combating vision-related illnesses, in collaboration with Tarauni Local Government.

The Primary Healthcare Coordinator in Tarauni, Alhaji Muktar Datti Gwarzo, and the Councilor for Health, Amir Abdullahi Kima, praised the dedication of health workers and the team of doctors, noting their efforts were key to the program’s success.

They also revealed that 35 patients were referred to Murtala Hospital for free surgical operations.

They urged residents to take their eye health seriously by undergoing regular check-ups.
