The Super Eagles of Nigeria boosted their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes on Thursday with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Lesotho.

The win, secured in South Africa, reignited Nigeria’s campaign after earlier setbacks, keeping their qualification dreams alive ahead of the final group fixtures.

Following a goalless first half, Captain William Troost-Ekong broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute from the penalty spot after Lesotho’s Motlomelo Mkwanazi handled the ball in the box.

Akor Adams extended Nigeria’s lead in the 80th minute, calmly slotting home from a Victor Osimhen assist, marking the Napoli striker’s return to the starting lineup alongside Ekong.

Lesotho pulled one back late through Hlompho Kalake after a defensive lapse by the Super Eagles, but Nigeria held firm to secure all three points.

The result keeps the Super Eagles firmly in contention for a spot at the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
