The Sultan of Sokoto and President General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday 18, May 2026, to be the first day of Zulhijjah following the sighting of the new Crescent.
This was contained in a press release issued and made available to newsmen in Sokoto by the chairman Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Waliyi Junaidu
The statement further said the Sultanate Council Committee on Moon Sighting received the reports of sighting the new crescent of Zulhijjah from various moon sighting committee across the country
With this development, Sallah would now hold on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, which is equivalent to the 10th of Zulhijjah 1447 AH. The month of Zulhijjah is the last month of the Islamic Calendar
