Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have declared a three-month humanitarian truce and called for immediate peace talks with the Sudanese Army, RSF leader Gen. Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo said in a video address late Monday.

He urged international mediators — the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the UAE — to pressure the military into accepting the proposal.

The Sudanese Army chief, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, rejected the ceasefire plan, accusing the mediators of bias.

Sudan’s war, which began in April 2023 with a power struggle between the army and the RSF, has killed more than 40,000 people and displaced over 14 million, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

Mediators have struggled for more than two years to restore a path to democratic transition after the 2021 military coup.
