Southampton have rejected a £27 million bid from Everton for 19-year-old winger Tyler Dibling, as the Merseyside club continues its search for attacking reinforcements.
The England Under-21 international has emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents, following an impressive season in which he scored twice in 33 Premier League appearances for the Saints, who were relegated last term.
Dibling also caught attention with a brace against Swansea City in the FA Cup third round.
Despite the rejection, Everton remain keen on the highly rated forward and are expected to return with an improved offer.
Everton have faced challenges strengthening their squad this summer. Manager David Moyes recently admitted the club is “running out” of time to complete key signings, even though funds are available.
So far, the Toffees have brought in striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal for £27 million, left-back Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich, and backup goalkeeper Mark Travers.
However, the club has also seen the departure of several key players, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucouré, leaving gaps in the starting lineup.
A move for Fulham right-back Kenny Tete earlier in the window also fell through, with the Dutchman opting to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.
Everton’s pursuit of Dibling reflects their urgent need to add attacking depth before the transfer window closes.
