To combat unemployment and strengthen the state bureaucracy, the Sokoto State Government has announced plans to recruit 3,000 new workers into the civil service.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while inaugurating the committee to oversee the recruitment exercise, described the initiative as a turning point for qualified indigenes and a strategic intervention to restore efficiency in the public sector.

He said priority would be given to unemployed graduates with NCE, HND, and Degree qualifications, assuring that the recruitment would be spread across all 23 local government areas to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

Governor Aliyu emphasized that only competent and qualified applicants would be considered, noting that injecting new energy and innovation into the civil service was essential for better service delivery.

“You must carry out this recruitment with justice, transparency, and fairness.

“Only those who meet the requirements and possess the skills to serve should be considered,” he directed. .

Sokoto youths must become productive citizens, capable of driving growth and development rather than being used as tools of destruction.”

The governor warned that rising unemployment had fueled the “informant syndrome,” where frustrated youths collaborate with criminals for little reward.

He described the recruitment drive as a remedy to such threats, stressing that empowering young people would transform them into assets rather than liabilities.

Highlighting his administration’s earlier empowerment programs, Aliyu noted that thousands of youths and women had been trained in trades such as tailoring, plumbing, electrical installation, vulcanizing, and cosmetics production, with many receiving start-up capital and tools.

Chairman of the Recruitment Committee, Jelani Kalgo, lauded the governor’s decision and pledged that the exercise would be conducted transparently to restore trust in the civil service.

Governor Aliyu reassured residents that the employment initiative was one of many reforms aimed at reducing crime, restoring hope, and securing the state’s future.
