Sokoto to Implement Early Grade Reading Program for Primary School Pupils

Sokoto State is set to the implementation of the Early Grade Reading (EGR) Program for all pupils of Primary 2 to 6 across the state.

Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Sokoto, Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal disclosed this on Wednesday while receiving the report from the Submit of Stakeholders Committee on challenges of Basic Education and Security in schools.

Addressing members of the Committee shortly after receiving the report, the Board Executive Chairman said he would continue to operate an open-door policy for Development partners, Organizations, Agencies, and educationists wishing to join hands to reinvigorate the state education sector.

He said Governor Ahmad Aliyu was satisfied with the USAID support program towards improving the education sector in the state and further commended the Submit Committee for its support of basic education.

Abdullahi Marafa applauded the Governor’s foresight in bringing back Umar Nagwari Tambuwal as Executive Chairman of the SUBEB, adding that he is optimistic that the new Chairman’s monumental achievements in the basic education sector would be recorded.

In her remarks, the Director of Social Mobilisation of the Board, Rabi Muhammad Gwadabawa, and the Chairperson of the Submit Committee thanked the  Executive Chairman for providing members of the committee the opportunity to present issues that will improve teaching and learning in schools across the state.

The committee’s members are seasoned Education Experts, Securities Agencies, UBEC, NTI, and NUT officials.

The presentation of the report had in attendance, the Secretary of the Board, Mahmud Ahmad Wamakko, Board members, the Acting Director of Administration, Tukur Abdullahi, and other higher-ranking officers of the Board.
