The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, has issued a blistering warning to school project contractors across the state, condemning their poor workmanship as a betrayal of public trust.

During an unscheduled inspection to Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Muhammad Bida Model Primary Schools in Wamakko LGA on Tuesday, Tambuwal expressed outrage over the substandard quality of both ongoing and completed infrastructure projects.

“These projects are unacceptable, and the responsible contractors should consider themselves on notice.

“The days of impunity are over,” he said.

At Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko Model Primary School, Tambuwal and his team found faulty construction across several blocks of classrooms, including a six-classroom building with a compromised roof.

He ordered the contractors to return immediately and fix the defects at their own expense, warning that failure to comply would lead to blacklisting, contract termination, and possible legal action.

“We will not allow incompetence to sabotage the education of our children.

“Any contractor who thinks this is business as usual will soon find out otherwise,” he said.

Reacting to a shortage of furniture, Tambuwal directed the immediate supply of chairs to classrooms and ordered urgent renovation of the school’s NYSC lodge.

He also called for the deployment of security personnel to protect the facility.

The Chairman encouraged teachers to uphold professionalism, urging them to embrace integrity and align with Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s sweeping education reforms, including a wage increase from ₦18,000 to ₦70,000 and expanded access to teaching tools and training.

In a symbolic move, Tambuwal personally taught Mathematics, English, and Hausa to JSS 3 students, assessing their performance and engagement firsthand.

At Muhammad Bida Model Primary School, a second inspection revealed similar issues, including a dire furniture shortage.

Tambuwal ordered an immediate supply of chairs and the construction of a motorized borehole to address water scarcity.

He reiterated his warning that all SUBEB contractors are now under surveillance, stating, “Every kobo invested in our schools must be accounted for. We are watching, and we will act.”

Further inspections are scheduled to continue, signaling a tough new era of enforcement and accountability in Sokoto State’s basic education system.
