The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Sokoto State Council, has expressed deep appreciation to the Sokoto State Government for converting the June 2025 salary payments into interest-free loans for civil servants.

The salaries, disbursed on 2 June, were hailed as a gesture of goodwill and a demonstration of the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, popularly known as Comrade Jungle, made the commendation during a press briefing at the NLC Secretariat in Sokoto on Tuesday.

He applauded the state government for its consistency and dedication in meeting its financial obligations to workers, stressing that prompt salary payments significantly boost employee morale and productivity across government departments and agencies.

Comrade Jungle also welcomed the recent opening of subsidy shops at Kofar Marke in Sokoto, describing the initiative as a timely response to the growing cost of living.

He noted that the shops would provide affordable essential goods to residents, particularly low-income earners.

In addition, the NLC chairman commended the ongoing efforts by the government to clear outstanding gratuities owed to retired civil servants dating back to 2016.

He described the payments as a long-awaited lifeline for many retirees and their families who have faced financial hardship.

While praising these positive developments, Comrade Jungle urged all civil servants in the state to remain dedicated and professional in the discharge of their duties.

He called on them to support government programs aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery, emphasizing that collective effort is vital to the state’s progress.

The Sokoto NLC reaffirmed its readiness to continue collaborating with the government in advancing the interests of workers and the wider public.
