Sokoto State Government has on Thursday distributed textile materials, cash assistance, and foodstuffs to 9,200 orphans and vulnerable individuals across the state’s 87 districts in preparation for the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, speaking at the distribution event stated that the initiative, organized through the state’s Zakat and Endowment Agency, was aimed at bringing joy to the most vulnerable members of society during the festive period.

“As part of our commitment to social welfare, each district has selected 100 beneficiaries. This includes 4,600 female orphans who received wrappers and 4,600 male orphans who received bundles of shadda. Additionally, every orphan will be given N5,000 in cash, along with N5,000 for sewing.

The distribution also included 50 bags of 50kg millet and 50 bags of 25kg rice per district.

In addition, the state Zakat Office provided an extra 500 bags of rice and millet to ensure that more families could benefit.

Governor Aliyu further called on wealthy individuals to extend their support to orphans and the underprivileged, emphasizing that caring for those in need is not only a moral duty but also aligns with the teachings of Islam and strengthens the social fabric.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to social welfare, youth empowerment, and poverty alleviation, stressing that these efforts would continue to be a priority in the years ahead.

“This annual program is part of our ongoing efforts to support the most vulnerable members of society during key festive seasons, ensuring that no one is left behind.”

The state government’s initiative is expected to bring relief and joy to thousands of families across Sokoto, providing both essential food items and financial support to help them celebrate Eid with dignity.

In addition to the Eid distribution, the government has pledged to continue its support for orphans and vulnerable populations in the coming months through various welfare programs aimed at improving their standard of living.

Governor Aliyu’s speech emphasized the importance of solidarity within society, urging citizens to collaborate in efforts that uplift the less fortunate and promote unity.

The Zakat and Endowment Agency, which has been instrumental in organizing the event, has been recognized for its ongoing work in providing social welfare services to the needy in Sokoto.
