Sokoto State Government has disbursed N293 million and distributed 1,540 bags of rice, millet, maize, and guinea corn to victims of bandit attacks and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Isa and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas.

According to a statement on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Ahmed Aliyu announced the gesture during his condolence visit to the affected communities.

In Isa LGA, the Governor Aliyu presented N2 million and five bags of rice each to 65 families who lost loved ones, while five injured persons received N250,000 and three bags of rice each.

He also donated N20 million and 1,200 bags of assorted food items to IDPs, bringing the total support for Isa to N151.25 million and 1,240 bags of food items.

Similarly, in Sabon Birni LGA, N2 million and five bags of rice each were given to 61 bereaved families, in addition to N20 million and 1,200 bags of food items for IDPs, amounting to N122 million and 1,300 bags distributed in the area.

Governor Aliyu revealed plans to send a bill to the State House of Assembly prescribing stiff penalties for informants aiding bandits, whom he described as the “fuel of insecurity” in the state.

He warned those involved to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

“I want to state here that informants will no longer have a place in our dear State,” he said, urging citizens to report suspicious movements or strangers in their communities.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to security, the Governor listed several measures taken since assuming office, including the distribution of over 180 patrol vehicles and support for the operationalization of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto.

Also included is the restoration and increase of monthly allowances for security personnel in volatile areas, and facilitation of a new military base in Illela LGA.

Governor Aliyu called on residents to support the government’s efforts through prayers and cooperation with security agencies.

In their remarks, the Chairmen of Isa and Sabon Birni LGAs, Hon. Sharifu Abubakar Kamarawa and Hon. Ayuba Hashimu, commended the Governor’s compassion and dedication, praying for Allah’s continued guidance and protection over his administration.
