Sokoto Awards Contract for Renovation of NDLEA Rehabilitation Center

The government of Sokoto state has awarded the contract for the total renovation of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) rehabilitation center located at the Command’s headquarters in the state.

The contract which was awarded to Galadanci Global Resources Ltd., was aimed at enhancing the facility’s infrastructure and provide conducive environment for drug abuse rehabilitation services.

According to a statement made available to Journalists by the NDLEA Assistant Commandant, Administration and Logistics Mohammed Dahiru, the rehabilitation works on the facility has since commenced.

“The rehabilitation works is part of the state government commitments to supporting NDLEA in its efforts to combat drug abuse in the state.

“The rehabilitation came sequel to urgent request to the state government for intervention by the state commander Adamu M. Iro on the state of dilapidation of the rehabilitation center that poses safety risk to officers and clients undergoing treatment and rehabilitation services.

The state commander however states that, the project demonstrated the commitment and dedication of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in providing quality health care facilities to the people of sokoto state and humanity in general.

“The center provides treatment and rehabilitation services to clients across the country and other neighbouring African countries.

While thanking sokoto state government, the commander unequivocally states that, the upgrade of the center will surely enhance the quality and capacity of treatment and care services for individuals struggling with drug addiction.

The contractor has since mobilized to site with necessary equipment for the commencement of the Rehabilitation works at the center.

On the other hand, the NDLEA Commander reiterated the command’s steadfastness and resilience in curtailing drug abuse and control in the state.

He said, currently there is dislodgement of smoking joints or black spots in Sokoto metropolis.

In the operation, over forty (48 male and 6 female) suspects were arrested and those with exhibits are being investigated for prosecution and those without exhibits are undergoing counseling for later release and warning.

According to him, the operation will continue and soon to be extended to local governments across the state.

Members of the public are therefore urged to volunteer useful information as part of individual and community role and responsibilities in ensuring a drug free society.
